This is a fascinating photo, Alan. The boy is definitely making a funny face but he seems to be the only child even trying to affect a smile. I may be misreading this, but the general mood of the group photo appears to be anger and/or fear. I can understand the poor teacher of 48 looking dazed. I can't help feeling sorry for them.
